Calculating the value of a Wyndham Rewards point

While hotels are the main way most members will redeem their points, there are several other ways you can use them.

Here are the details on every way you can use Wyndham Rewards.

Redeeming Wyndham Rewards for hotel stays: 0.90 CPP

Not only are hotel redemptions the most common way points will be used, it’s also the most valuable.

It’s quite simple to book a free night using your Wyndham Rewards. The program has 3 levels of points you need to redeem for a free night:

  • 7,500
  • 15,000
  • 30,000

When you go to book a hotel, select the Wyndham Rewards points option, and you’ll see how much the hotel costs in points per night. There won’t be any bill you have to pay either, since your points cover taxes and fees charges as well. There’s also the option to pay with cash and points if you don’t have enough for your stay.

How did we get our value? We surveyed 33 Wyndham hotels all across Canada. We test booked these hotels 3 weeks in advance, for a 3 night stay from Thursday to Sunday.

We got an average point value of 0.9 cents for hotel stays.

Anything to point out from our numbers? A couple of things. All but 3 of our hotels cost 15,000 points for a free night. And we did see a range of values – from 0.48 to 1.77 cents per point.

There was plenty of availability, and we didn’t have any issues finding free night award stays.

Transfer Wyndham Rewards to airline partners: 0.5 cents each

Feel the need to fly? You can transfer your Wyndham points to 11 different airlines, as well as Amtrak and to Payback Points – India’s largest retail rewards program. You can view the full list here.

For all of these programs, 6,000 Wyndham points will give you 1,200 points.

How does it work? Head to this page and select the partner you want to transfer to. You have to transfer points in 6,000 point increments. Once completed, the points will appear in 6 – 8 weeks.

One of those airline programs? Aeroplan. With our typical 2.5 cents per mile valuation on flights, this translates into a Wyndham Rewards point value of 0.5 cents each.

Just note the time it can take for the transfer to complete. If this is an option you want to use, you’ll have to prepare well in advance as the transfer can take up to 8 weeks to complete.

Redeeming Wyndham Rewards for gift cards: 0.45 CPP

Wyndham Rewards can be used for free gift cards.

There are 3 denominations of gift cards available, and no matter what retailer they’re from, they all cost the same amount of points.

Gift Card Value Points Required Point Value (cents)
$25 6,000 0.42
$50 11,000 0.45
$100 21,000 0.48

Saving up for a bigger gift card will give you a slighter better value for your points.

You can see the full selection of gift cards here.
