Your rewards will automatically be redeemed after you have collected enough points, and you make a purchase that includes an item in your selected category.

If you would rather save your points, you can select the “Bank my points” option in the app or on the website.

If you leave this as your selection, any time you have earned 70 or more Tims Reward points and purchase a regular brewed coffee or tea while using your Tims Rewards card, you will automatically use those points to get that part of your purchase for free.

If you want to redeem your points on something else, simply change the default selection in the app. If you would rather save your points, select “Bank my points” instead.

Tims Rewards points maximum and expiration

If you choose to bank your points, remember that you can only collect a maximum of 20,000 points.

Also, stored points will expire after a year, so be sure to use them before you lose them!

How and where to earn Tims Rewards

So, intrigued? Want to start collecting points towards that sweet, sweet free iced coffee or bowl of chili you’ve been craving? It’s super easy to get started.

Register on the website or app

The easiest way to get started is to head over to the Tim Hortons website and register as a new user. Click the “Log In” button in the upper right corner, and you’ll be taken to a “Sign In” page where you can hit the “Sign up” button to create your account.

Alternatively, you can head to the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store and download the Tim Hortons app. Similarly, just tap the icon in the top right corner and you’ll be taken to the “Sign In” page, where you’ll be able to create an account.

If you’re concerned about privacy, you may want to do a little research before installing the Tims Rewards app. There are reports that it does some pretty heavy-handed tracking of your location and data, which may be something you would prefer to avoid.

Get a Tim Hortons Rewards collector card

Now that there’s a Tim Hortons app, you no longer need to have a physical Tim Hortons rewards card – they can simply scan your app.

If you already have a physical card, or if you decide you want one and get one in-store, you’ll have to link that physical card to your account. You can do this either on the app or website.

Note: If you have a physical Tims Rewards card from before the February 26, 2020 update, make sure you get it linked to an account. Otherwise your rewards will have reduced value.

You’re all set to start collecting Tims Rewards

Now that you’re all set up, every time you make a purchase at Timmies, you’ll earn 10 Tims Rewards points as long as you present your card or app.

Yep, no matter what you buy, or how much it costs, you will receive 10 Tims Rewards for every eligible purchase.

“But what if I just sit there and buy 1,000 Timbits, one at a time?”

Well, it turns out they’ve thought of that. There are some rules to these things. To qualify for earning your 10 Tims Rewards points, your purchase has to be:

  • at least $0.50 before tax, and
  • at least 30 minutes must have passed since your last purchase.

Other ways to earn rewards at Tim Hortons

So Tims Rewards are great and all, but are there other ways to earn even more rewards through your Timmies purchases? You bet there are. There’s good old super-flexible cash back, Aeroplan, AIR MILES, or any of several other rewards programs that may be more useful or valuable to you.

And the best part? You’ll be earning these on top of earning Tims Rewards, since you’ll still be collecting those in addition to what you can earn with the cards we list here.
