If you’re an Aeroplan collector, you’re going to LOVE this deal.

From now until December 1, 2019, TD is running some of the largest sign-up bonus promotion they’ve ever had with 3 of their Aeroplan credit cards:

TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card bonus

The standard TD Aeroplan credit card, the , normally offers a sign-up bonus after making your first purchase. You’ll get 15,000 miles and 5,000 extra when you add an authorized user.

And, for the first three months, you’ll actually be earning 2x the Aeroplan miles for every eligible purchase, up to a total of 20,000 miles earned.

However, this amount includes what you would be earning on your regular spending anyway. So, while you can earn 20,000 bonus miles in the first 3 months on spending, the welcome bonus itself won’t be worth the full 40,000 miles.

Given our estimated 2.5 cent value for each Aeroplan mile, you’re looking at $750 in value from the sign-up bonus alone if you can get the full 30,000 bonus miles.

Plus, the first year is free for the primary cardholder. It’s a risk-free way to test drive the card and see if it’s right for you.

Once you pocket your sign-up bonus, you’ll keep earning with:

  • 1.5 miles per $1 spent on gas, groceries, drugstores, and aircanada.com purchases (up to $80,000 annually), and
  • 1 mile per $1 spent on everything else.

Using a 2.5 cent return for one mile and our base $2,000 per month spend, you can get a 2.96% average return on all of your spend. For comparison, the best cash back cards only give you a maximum return of 2%, earning you an extra $230 in rewards per year.

Perks and insurance coverage

What makes this card stand out as a great Aeroplan card, though, is the Air Canada benefits you’ll get when you fly on an Aeroplan rewards ticket, like:

  • free first checked bag,
  • priority check-in,
  • priority boarding, and
  • Maple Leaf Lounge access (once per year).

These benefits will make your rewards flight even better.

Plus, with 10 types of insurance, including flight delay, trip cancellation, and trip interruption, you’ll know you’re covered no matter what happens during your travels.

Annual fee waiver

After the first complimentary year, the annual fee is $120 for the primary cardholder ($50 for authorized users) and there’s a personal income requirement of $60,000 (or $100,000 household income).

But, if you have the TD All-Inclusive chequing account, this card qualifies for an annual fee waiver for the primary cardholder and one authorized user. The monthly fee for the chequing account can also be waived by keeping a high minimum balance in your account.

TD® Aeroplan® Visa Platinum* Card offer

If you don’t meet the income requirements above, the is a great alternative. It’s also currently offering a higher than usual sign-up bonus.

You’ll receive a welcome bonus of 10,000 miles after your first purchase, 5,000 after you add an authorized user, and 2x your miles for the first three months, up to 10,000 miles earned.

However, this amount includes what you would be earning on your regular spending anyway, an. So while you can earn up to bonus 25,000 miles, the welcome bonus itself won’t be worth quite that much.

Plus, you also get the first year free for the primary cardholder.

But how many miles can you earn with your spending? Glad you asked:

  • 1 mile on every $1 spent on gas, groceries, and drugstores (up to $80,000 annually), and
  • 1 mile for every $1.50 spent on everything else.

What does this card return for your spending? Our average return is 1.96%, almost the same as the best cash back cards available, but for a slightly lower annual fee.

Insurance coverage and annual fee waiver

The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Platinum* has 7 types of travel and purchase protection, which is only slightly less than its Infinite companion.

It has a lower annual fee of $89 for the primary cardholder ($35 for authorized users). And, you’ll qualify for an annual fee waiver if you have the TD All-Inclusive chequing account like before as well.

The downside? There are no Air Canada benefits with this card.

However, if you don’t meet the requirements of the Infinite now, you can start with the Platinum first. If you show strong spending as a cardholder over the first year, you can call customer service and request an upgrade to Infinite. The worst they can say is no.

TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card bonus

If you’re looking for an even bigger sign-up bonus, the will give you one of the biggest bonuses available.

You’ll get a limited time welcome bonus of up to 60,000 Aeroplan Miles.

This includes:

  • 25,000 miles after you make your first purchase, and
  • 5,000 more miles if you add an authorized user.

To put the cherry on top, for the first three months, you’ll also receive double the miles on all purchases, up to 30,000 miles earned. However, the 2x miles amount includes what you would be earning on your regular spending anyway. So while you can earn a total of 60,000 miles in the first 3 months, the welcome bonus itself won’t be worth quite that much.

Then, out of all 3 cards we mentioned, you’ll earn the most miles for your spending:

  • 1.5 miles per $1 spent on gas, groceries, drugstores and aircanada.com purchases (up to $100,000 annually), and
  • 1.25 miles per $1 spent on everything else.

Loads of perks plus insurance coverage

But where this card stands out is its perks. Any time you fly with Air Canada (not just on award bookings!) you’ll get:

  • free first checked bag,
  • priority check-in,
  • priority boarding.

Plus, you get 4 Maple Leaf lounge passes that can be used when travelling on an Aeroplan rewards ticket operated by Air Canada.

But it doesn’t stop there. Get some great Visa Infinite Privilege benefits as well, including:

  • special benefits at Vancouver, Ottawa, and Montreal-Trudeau airports, and
  • Priority Pass membership with 6 free passes per year.

That means you’ll have a total of 10 free lounge visits every year, which is enough to cover most leisure travellers who take a few vacations every year.

And as one last perk…

Once per year, if you buy a trip in business class for 2 within North America on Air Canada, you get 50% off the base air fare for one of the tickets. This benefit alone can cover the annual fee.

Then there’s the 10 types of purchase and travel insurance, just in case you need them. Most coverage limits are quite a bit higher than its Visa Infinite counterpart.

No annual fee waiver

It does come with an annual fee of $399 for the primary cardholder ($99 for authorized users) and a household income requirement of $200,000.

Unfortunately, there’s currently no first year free offer for this card.
