A great part of collecting AIR MILES is there is no shortage of promotions to earn bonus miles.

And back in time for the holidays is Shop The Block. With the right strategy, you can get yourself up to 1,200 bonus miles this holiday season.

Shop The Block 2019 runs from November 14 to December 27, read the details below…

Shop the block promotion

Shop The Block offer details

If you’re familiar with Shop The Block, it’s similar to last year’s promotion.

New to Shop The Block? Here’s how it works.

Most AIR MILES sponsors have a bonus offer you have to complete. To find out what the offers are, head to the Shop The Block page, select your region, and you’ll see the offers available in your region.

Here’s an example:

sample Shop the Block partners
For each offer, there’s a few ways you may need to claim it. Some will require you to scan a barcode, others require you to opt-in and register your collector, and for others there’s nothing you have to do (besides scan your collector number at the register).

Keep in mind: Many sponsors will have more than 1 offer, and if you complete more than 1 offer at the same partner, only one of them counts towards the Shop The Block offers completed.

You’ll need to complete offers at different sponsors to get bonus miles.

Offers at different sponsors to get your Air Miles bonus

1,200 bonus miles with 7 offers at 7 partners

To get the full 1,200 miles, you’ll need to complete 7 offers from 7 different partners.

And that’s all there is to it. And remember, this 1,200 miles is in addition to the bonus miles you earn with partner offers as well.

Plan your strategy

A tip on this? Plan ahead, and map out what offers you need to complete, and note the date they need to be completed by.

Shop The Block runs until December 27. But not all offers will run for the duration either. Also be sure to keep your receipts in case you do complete an offer but didn’t get the full Shop The Block bonus credited to you.

Also, all these bonus miles will help you achieve Onyx Status for 2021.

So what’s your strategy, you ask? Read all about it below.

AIR MILES credit cards

Have an AIR MILES credit card? Unfortunately, only BMO credit cards have an offer to complete towards your Shop The Block. American Express is not a participant in this year’s promotion.

For BMO credit cards, your bonus offer depends on how much you spend at participating partners (you can find out who they are here).

How many bonus miles you earn depends on how much you spend with them:

  • spend $350 and receive 50 bonus miles, or
  • spend $700 and receive 100 bonus miles.

All (or most) of these partners have Shop The Block offers as well, so consider using your BMO AIR MILES Card as a way to kill 2 birds with one stone.

It also has a limited welcome bonus as well – up to 3,800 miles when you apply by January 20, 2020.

My own 7-step strategy

Here’s my personal strategy to get the full 1,200 bonus AIR MILES. All of these offers run the full length of the promotion, save for a couple that don’t start until early December (but can be completed by December 27).

I’m definitely going to be completing these 5 offers:

  • Spend $350 at participating sponsors with my ,
  • Sobeys – spend $50,
  • Irving – either redeem cash miles for a purchase or buy a $100 gift card,
  • Needs – spend $25, and
  • Shell – buy 25 L of fuel.

Then, I’ll also need to complete 2 of these 4 offers:

  • – spend $100 in a single transaction,
  • Kent – spend $40,
  • Lawton’s – spend $40, or
  • Staples – spend $100.

Finally, if there’s only a few days left in the promotion and I happen to be one offer short, I’ll complete my first survey with Rewarding Your Opinions (you can access via the Shop The Block offers page).
