The no-fee is one of our favourite cash back cards. With the ability to choose where you earn your bonus cash back, it’s a credit card with a different approach to rewards.

Now Tangerine has launched their second card…and this time a no-fee World Mastercard:

What’s different about it?

It’s actually largely the same card, barring the crisp vertical look and and a few added premium features.

Let’s go over the differences and similarities between these cards.

Rewards that fit your life

When it comes to earning rewards, both cards are identical. You get to choose 2 categories to earn 2% cash back in, and get a 3rd if you deposit your rewards in a free Tangerine Savings Account . This puts a lot of the choice in your hands.

Here are the 10 categories available:

Tangerine Mastercard categories

Outside of these categories, you’ll earn 0.5% cash back.

Welcome bonus

The welcome bonus? Also the same on both cards. Earn unlimited 4% cash back on your chosen categories for the first 3 months. It’s the only credit card in Canada that has an unlimited cash back welcome bonus.

$75 Amazon gift card

And to top that off, we’re also offering a $75 Amazon gift card when you apply here and get approved for the card (this offer ends on January 16, 2020).

Note: If you already have the Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card, you are not eligible for this gift card offer. However, you can upgrade your card to the World edition directly through Tangerine.

No annual fee for both but different income requirements

There’s no difference here either, both cards have no annual fee. Sweet.

That being said, the does have higher income requirements of either $60,000 personal or $100,000 household to qualify. Compared to the with a personal income requirement of $12,000.

Depending on your income, this could be a huge or small difference.

Plus up to 4% cash back.

World Mastercard benefits and feature upgrades

This is where things start to differ slightly with these cards.

Here are the extra features the offers over its older brother.

Purchase and travel insurance

Both cards offer basic purchase protection (90 days) and extended warranty.

However, the also offers mobile device insurance and car rental theft and damage coverage to top it off.

Decent insurance coverage is rare on a no fee card, and mobile device insurance is rare in Canada. Period.

Here’s the full details on the insurance coverages:

Airport lounge access

For some airport lounge access to relax before a flight, the offers access to Mastercard Airport Experience lounges.

But keep in mind there are no free passes included, so each visit will cost you $32 USD.

World Mastercard experience

The last extra benefits the provides are World Mastercard benefits.

You’ll be able to:

  • access Mastercard Priceless cities, and
  • Mastercard World Experiences.

What are Mastercard Priceless cities? It’s a program that will allow you to choose from a wide variety of once-in-a-lifetime experiences, in cities all around the world.

Mastercard World Experiences will give you preferred access to all kinds of valuable offer and complimentary upgrades.

You can learn more about what they offer here.

A worthy upgrade?

This card is a nice little upgrade over the , but there’s no difference in these 2 key areas – rewards and fees.

That said, you will need to meet its higher income requirements.

But if you don’t? Don’t worry, you’re not missing out on too much.
