Calculating the value of a Best Western point

When it comes to redeeming Best Western Points, you have a variety of options above and beyond free hotel nights.

Here are the various ways you can redeem your points.

Redeeming Best Western points for hotel stays: 0.83 CPP

It shouldn’t be a surprise, but redeeming your points for free night stays is by far the best way to use your points.

We surveyed 38 hotels all across Canada, from St John’s to Victoria, and all the way up to Whitehorse.

We came to an average value of 0.83 cents per points.

On top of free nights having the best value for your points, they’re also super easy to redeem. We had no problems finding availability for the hotels we looked at, and we only test booked 3 weeks in advance.

Points also cover taxes and fees, so you’ll truly be getting free travel – assuming you don’t charge anything to your room. And these bookings are flexible as well, meaning you can cancel your reservation anytime as long as you follow the hotel’s policy, which is usually 48 hours before check in.

Add it all up, and staying for hotels is definitely the best way to use your points.

Redeem points for Best Western gift cards: 0.59 CPP

If you don’t have enough saved up for a full free night, you can redeem for a Best Western gift card instead.

They’re available in denominations between $25 – $250. No matter the size of the card, they all have the same value – 0.59 cents per point.

It’s also a good way to redeem for a stay if you’re not getting great value for your points on a free night. This way, you’ll always get a value of 0.59 CPP at the very least.

Redeem Best Western points for other gift cards: 0.53 CPP

Who doesn’t love getting something for free with your points?

There are plenty of other gift cards you can redeem for beyond just Best Western. Just note when you’re looking for that perfect one, you’ll see redemption options for both Canada and the U.S.

Here are some of the Canadian options available. They all have similar values, with an average of 0.53 cents per point.

Gift Card Points Required Value (cents) $50 9,600 0.52
Petro-Canada $25 4,800 0.52
Shell $25 4,800 0.52
Loblaws $25 4,900 0.51
Staples $25 4,700 0.53
Bed Bath and Beyond $25 4,700 0.53
Best Buy $50 9,700 0.52
Starbucks $25 4,400 0.57

Transfer Best Western points to Aeroplan: 0.50 CPP

Want to use your points for other programs? You can do just that with your Best Western points.

There are 15 different airlines you can transfer your points to. The transfer rate depends on the partner, but many of them are around the 5:1 ratio.

One of those programs? Aeroplan. You can transfer points at a 5:1 ratio, in increments of 5,000 Best Western points.

With an Aeroplan mile valued at 2.5 cents each, that gives each transferred Best Western point a value of 0.50 cents.

Want to increase the value of your points? Wait for an Aeroplan promotion like this one. In this case, you could’ve received an additional 300 Aeroplan miles if you transferred 5,000 Best Western points, increasing your Best Western value to 0.65 cents each.

These promotions come along a couple of times of year, and the boost they give to your points may just make them worth the wait.

Transfer Best Western points to AIR MILES: 0.28 CPP

There’s one more transfer option – AIR MILES.

Transfer 5,000 Best Western points, and receive 80 AIR MILES.

Unfortunately, this transfer option provides the worst value for your points. Our average value for an AIR MILE is 17.2 cents when redeemed for flights, which gives a Best Western point a meagre value of 0.28 cents each.
