If you’ve been collecting American Express Membership Rewards, you’re probably already familiar with the Fixed Points Travel Program, and for good reason.

And now, until April 30, 2019, you can earn bonus points when you book a flight using the Fixed Points Travel Program.

Bonus rewards for using your points? Yes, please.

Here’s how it works.

Amex Fixed Points Travel Program

American Express has placed a fixed point rate on flights, no matter the time of year. And regardless of the availability or popularity of the flight, you’ll always pay the same amount of points.

You’re not getting a bad dollar rate for your points either. In fact, in some cases (ie. a long haul flight within Canada and the U.S.) using the Fixed Points Travel Program will give each of your points a value of 1.75 cents each – which is great in comparison to using your points for travel booked any way, which only offers a point value of 1 cent.

$700 / 40,000 points = .0175 = 1.75 cents

Here’s the chart from the American Express website to see where your Amex Membership Rewards can get you for economy class redemptions.

Just note that your points only cover the base airfare, you have to pay any taxes, fees and carrier surcharges.

How to get your bonus points

To earn your bonus points, simply book a flight using your points by April 30, 2019 and you’ll receive your bonus points after the transaction is complete.

These points will come in at the following rate:

  • 5,000 points when you redeem up to 50,000 points, and
  • 10,000 points when you redeem more than 50,000 points.

This promotion is a great way to help you get ahead for your next trip.
